Kilo One - Do Not Diet!
Before we talk about the do's, I feel it's necessary to first explore the don'ts, the most important one of all being, do not diet!
No, we won't do that here, nor will we be joining an expensive gym. These are my two promises. This road that we'll endeavor to tread on, is a path of a more relaxed, stress free journey. Relating not only to losing weight, but to naturally coaxing our bodies and brains to understand how to hover at the weight which is ideal for us, Not our mum's, or that super model's weight - ours! If the body is mine, then the weight at which I aspire, has to be just right for me.
Now then, we've said that we're not going on a diet. Why? Because it is one of the worst ways of losing weight as it makes us miserable and hungry. Instead of making us want to eat less, a diet encourages stronger cravings for food because it snatches away that which we've grown so accustomed to - food! Why would I want to stick with something which takes away one of my most satisfying pleasures? Dieting is self-punishment, it is denying fat minded people a relationship with one of their closest friends. No matter how bad I feel about myself, I won't want to put it under strain indefinitely. This, consequently is why diets never last.
We've seen the amazingly intelligent Oprah Winfrey confess that denying oneself food (dieting) is a mammoth undertaking for a human to stick to indefinitely.
So forget dieting! If we're going to do this, we must accept that whatever it involves, it's not that! We do not want to fall into a trap of self-denial, because it takes away the nutrients our bodies needs by not allowing it a balanced diet. It also puts us under a stressful existence, which leaves us and the people around us, holding our breath, turning blue and craving for the minute we could just dive into a food pool again and get our faces dirty.
We will discuss ways in which we will adopt a lifestyle, which will help us to lose weight, not just for a few months before piling it back on, but for life. Following these steps will inject a new sense of self-worth because we'll be happy as we lose weight. Granted, it will take longer, but we're prepared to be patient because we know the results will be lasting, and this alone is worth it!
We will become one of the people we admire, one of the healthy weight people. We won't call them skinny, because we won't aim for skinny. Our goal is to arrive at our healthy, ideal weight - henceforth referred to as our h.i.t.
In this series of articles we will interject into our lives, pieces of a lifestyle, that when taken as a whole, is guaranteed to give us our h.i.t.
Why would this work when other ideals have failed?
Well, this is not difficult to start, and becomes increasingly easy to live with. Here is the key - sustainability! Something we can and will stick with. All we have to bring to the table is a determination to make this big H.I.T last for the rest of our lives, and to keep a journal of what we're doing and what's going to happen next.
Kilo 2 awaits with the next step. Excitement is barely containable at the opening of this new door, and contented life; a life in which dieting and food-related miseries are not welcome.
Are we ready? One step (one kilo) at a time is the way forward. Do not do kilo 3, unless kilo 2 is conquered.
