In general, women will go through menopause when they are their 50s. The cause is the same - the ovary has stopped producing ovum. This resulted in the drop of estrogen hormone level and menopause will take place (between 5 to 7 years). Women at this age, as compared to men, will undergo many changes because the estrogen hormone is linked to more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body. Hypothalamus, a brain control system, will lose its equilibrium.
The many functions of hypothalamus include regulating the body temperature, sleep cycle, essential metabolism, stress, thyroid glands, thirst and hunger. Hence, it is no surprise why a person will face numerous complications when there is imbalance in the estrogen hormone level.
What are the signs of menopause?
Chronic hot flushes
Usually occur in the upper part of the body, followed by rapid heartbeat, short breath and excessive perspiration. This happens when the hormone is unstable and makes the body temperature irregular.
Unable to sleep
The sleeping pattern is generated by hypothalamus. Lack of hormone will interrupt.
Skin change
The changes in the estrogen hormone quality will also affect the health of the skin. Estrogen hormone hydrates the skin so that it will stay soft, beautiful and taut. The lost of this hormone will escalate skin aging.
Urinary tract complications
The urinary tract is located near the vagina. Like other organs in a women's body, the urinary tract is sensitive to the changes in estrogen hormone. The vagina becomes dry; the urinary tract (from the urinary bladder to the urethra) will thin and slightly shrink. This will create a burning sensation when urinating, cause frequent urination and lost of bladder control.
Emotional change
Many women experience depression, restlessness and imbalanced emotion when they undergo menopause. They may feel lack of confidence and concentration. These symptoms will cease once the hormone balance is back to normal.
